Nancy Wu

Advanced Clinical Intern

Pronouns: They/Them/Their

My name is Nancy Wu (they/she), and I’m a queer, genderqueer, neurodivergent counselor-in-training from Shanghai, China. I’m passionate about using the power of solidarity for deeper and more sustained healing. As a bilingual and bicultural child of ex-immigrants, I know that we are constantly translating ourselves to the world around us, across languages, cultures, values, and neurotypes. I believe that therapy should be a safe space where you shouldn’t have to translate or justify who you are, a space uniquely tailored for your healing on your terms. Healing doesn’t have to be a lonesome and exhausting journey.

I grew up speaking my family’s dialect, situating queerness through Shanghai’s queer/trans techno scene. I witnessed the severe lack of mental health support and the impacts of stigma, familial shame, and incompetent existing care. I decided I would always be equipped with the tools for healing; this would be my way of giving back to the vibrant community that has made me who I am. My therapeutic work takes a trauma-informed approach with a deep resonance with liberation and feminist psychology. I believe in client-first methods of healing that transcend pathologizing labels, centering the will of the client. We are all constant works in progress, and my hope is that together, we can grow our self understanding and learn the power of our inherent connectedness. This allows us beyond solidarity to recognize that the systems which oppress us are one and the same, to recognize the oneness of our struggle.

I am interested in working with queer, genderqueer, or neurodivergent people, people with spiritual or activist inclinations, and people of color. I have extensive experience working with individuals of Asian descent, and can offer services in Mandarin. Significant topics of interest for me include trauma and QTPOC intersectionality. I hope to help people navigate intersectional identities and positions of privilege towards collective liberation. I learned to heal as a tool to serve and empower marginalized communities. We serve not just individuals, but everyone they touch as well. Beginning our healing with the heart and mind enables us to break out of cycles of pain and pave the way for our collective liberation.
