Statement
As mental health professionals deeply committed to human well-being and collective liberation, we stand in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian liberation movement. We recognize the profound impact of oppression, violence, and displacement on the mental health and well-being of individuals and communities.
The trauma inflicted by decades of occupation and colonization cannot be overstated, and it is our duty to bear witness to the suffering and resilience of the Palestinian people, and all peoples facing the violence of imperialist control.
We acknowledge that true liberation encompasses not only physical freedom but also the restoration of dignity, agency, and mental health. Healing from the wounds of oppression requires justice, empowerment, and collective support.
We pledge to advocate for access to mental health resources, resilience-building initiatives, and community-based healing spaces for Palestinians living under occupation and in exile and all humans organizing in support of collective liberation.
We denounce all forms of systemic oppression, including but not limited to: racism, queermisia, transmisia, xenomisia, sexism, ableism, anti-fat bias, Islamomisia, and Judeomisia (aka anti-Semitism).
Further, we reject the pathologization of resistance and resilience. The struggle for liberation is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to resist, survive, and thrive in the face of adversity.
In solidarity with the Palestinian people - and the people of Kashmir, Sudan, Congo, Guam, Guyana, Hawai’i, and Puerto Rico, Uyghurs, and Rohingya - we reaffirm our commitment to promoting mental health and wellbeing as integral components of the broader struggle for justice and liberation.
